Apres ski

OK, as promised, I would give you an update after my ski trip so here I am, with VERY LITTLE motivation or enthousiasm ( I never know how to spell enthousiasm) to run this Sunday's More (old lady) half marathon.
First of, I didn't really train much. It is a bit like : "What the heck! It is only 13 miles, I can wing it, I don't REALLY need to train for a HALF marathon!" Yeah right! Of course, I can RUN a half marathon (SLOWLY!). Boy, I am starting to sound (LOOK) like that book "A prayer for Owen Meany" It was a John Irving book that I didn't particularly care for and whenever Owen Meany spoke it was in capital letters. After a while I started to skip the small print and read only what Owen said. Then I stopped reading the book altogether. I promise I will stop putting capital letters in here so you won't stop reading. I hope.
So anyway, I decided not to run the More Marathon this year because for various reasons, I think it is a bit of a Mickey Mouse race and I just didn't feel like spending all my time this winter doing long runs.
Second, although I had a really good ski trip last week with excellent snow conditions, I did manage to bruise a rib (or two) when I fell in this big field of powder but on top of somebody else's ski. Nothing major except it is hard to breath in deep, cough or sneeze. So just to make sure I could run this race at all I went out and ran 9 miles yesterday, slowly (I am very tempted to put that "slowly" in capital letters but I won"t). And my feeling is that if I can run 9 miles slowly, I can run 13.1, even if it is only a training run. That way all you people who are coming to New Jersey with us to run a flat (the urge to go capital again) half marathon may just feel a tad intimidated that I am doing a 13 mile training run this weekend.

Then of course there is the weather forecast for Sunday, rain and SNOW showers ( with a forecast like that, I could not help myself, capital letters were in order). Remember last year's weather for the More marathon? We had the after marathon party on the terrace and I think we were out there till about six o'clock in the evening.
\nBut of course the biggest reason that I feel extremely unmotivated is the \nfact that my support group will not be around. Stephan and Anne in the \nFlorida keys, Wendy\'s parents are visiting, Erik will be in Dallas, Deb will be \nin Denver, David moved away to Minnesota, Claudia to Venezuela, Micheline and \nSteven to Belgium and Nathalie made the move to Belgium last year already. \nEven Larry won\'t be here, he is attending a family event. So here is needy \nLiefy, without much of a support team. No wonder the motivation is hard to \ncome by.\nBut, warmer weather cannot be far away and hopefully the running bug will \nreturn. I cannot believe there won\'t be a lot of SLG spirit building up to \nthe New Jersey half marathon. And after that, it won\'t be long until we \nhave to get serious about training for the Chicago marathon. Only seven \nmonths minus one day away. And counting.....\nNot much other news. Renovations are going pretty much according to \nplan, apparently we should be able to walk between the 4th and the 5th floor via \nan internal staircase by the end of next week.\nErik and Wendy\'s renovations are finished. They now have a new living \nroom with a fireplace. And Wendy\'s Dad who is visiting from Belgium has \ndiscovered Loew\'s home improvement store and has decided to renovate their \nsecond bathroom.\nThomas is trying to get me to start an SLG blog. Erik and Stefan, how \nis that website coming?\nDavid, have you recovered from having a new job yet. How's the SLG logo Micheline and Steven moved back to Belgium this past Wednesday!.. Good luck to you both. Claudia moved back to Caracas in February and seems to be really happy in \nher new job of micro financing. (Making small loans to people in the third world \nfor very small projects. Is that right Claudia?..Rumor has it that she \nwill be the future president of Venezuela!)\nAnne is negotiating terms for a part time job as a speech \npathologist.
