Message from THE KING
Empty challenges will not be tolerated. I sense some arrogance in the comments section of the blog with regard to "another flat course" or a "better start position" determining the outcome of the finishers.
So last Sunday at the start of the "Race to deliver" 4 miler, expecting a competitive field, I looked over my shoulder and to my dismay, only Mike, the displaced flyer, was willing to risk a challenge. Where was Stefan? Where was Mark? Where was queenie? All of my respect goes to Mike, his attempt fell short but it was a noble effort nonetheless.
Make note, if in the future, subtle barbs are to be thrown, they will only be taken seriously if you lace up your shoes and come to the start.
FYI a 10K on December 10th, is awaiting the brave hearted.
P.S. SLG could use the support. It is getting lonely at the top, even when you are in Central Park surrounded by 5100 of ones best friends. The King

Although it says that this message was posted by Lief, and although we all know that the King is "e-mail" challenged, make no mistake, this message did indeed come from the King. I guess the reason it says that it is posted by Lief, the blog says it is posted by Lief because it is registered to me. For instance, if you go look at the bottom of the "Message of the founding fathers" it also says that it is posted by Lief, and I never wrote as well as that. Anyway, I think the King must be obeyed. Well, I wish I had a good excuse...but I don't except that I forgot about this important event. I think the King did well and kept the SLG flag flying. I penciled in 10th .. after Thanksgiving I need some serious workout.. right not it feels that I will do a 10min/mile Cheers

And the King shall rule!
I heard through the grapevine that he has already signed up for the NJ 1/2 marathon. OR he is concerned about hotel room availability OR our King is working on something. How about a 1/2 under 1:30?
Last weekend Mark Hennenfent and I ran the Navesink Challenge. A 15K along the hilly scenic roads of NJ. For not having put his running shoes on for over more than a week, he did a great job. And I am happy as well.
Our times: 1:15 and 1:12 respectively. For pictures of our start together and timed finish pics see below:

And so the saying goes. "The apple does not fall far from the tree."
After our 15K run, there was a 5 mile run/walk. When the walkers walked by, Victor told his mommy. "Are these the loosers? They are going very slow?".
All I am waiting for is to go running with him. A few more years and we'll be ready.
Running greetings,
Erik
