This is the SLG blog that Lief never wanted to start. But Thomas started it for me and challenged me to make it better and hey, I took the challenge and here it is, and I hope with every post it is a better, and more entertaining blog.

Margarita saves the day

So here I was, last Saturday May 19th, after running the "Healthy Kidney 10 k", all by my lonesome. On the one hand, I felt pretty good. I had been in a real running/racing slump and not having had any expectations, I was pretty happy with my time. I even managed to run one mile under 8 minutes and that made me happy.
The problem was, there was nobody to walk back home with, NOT ONE SLG'er in site. Gil was in Vegas, for a "conference", I am sure Mike was at the race, incognito of course, as a flyer or something, Stefan found it more important to sit in front of a TV screen to watch some German soccer and Mark has fallen off the face of the running world. And then probably the worst news of all is that Dora did not get accepted for the NYC marathon 2007. A sad state of affairs for SLG, no?
So home I went, ready to write a posting with the title ;"May 19th, A Sad Day for SLG". But then a beautiful thing happened, I went on line to find out my official results for the race, punched in "Team", and low and behold, I was lonesome no more, there was one other, budding, SLG member : Margarita (Chavez) had run the race and SAVED THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now she is on to bigger races. I noticed last night that Margarita was accepted for the New York City Half Marathon to be run August 5th. It is obnoxious that they made it a lottery system this year but at least most of us are in. Of course Gil qualified, and Stefan, Mike, and I are all in. It seems that Mark didn't register and unfortunately Erik has a "no" next to his name but I am sure that situation can be rectified.
So, here is to all the local, national and international SLG members. You have a bit more respit and this long Memorial Day Weekend may not be the most conducive to running but pretty soon we have to get our shoes and sox and legs in gear, get some motivation going and start thinking about this half marathon to be run and more importantly, about the SLG event of 2007, THE NEW YORK CITY MARATHON.
Actually, I will be in Belgium this weekend for some time with family and friends and a big party on Saturday where we will have several SLGers present for some serious alcohol loading. Hopefully I will get to see Clem, Patrick, SLG winner of the Chicago marathon, Dora, Erik and Philippe. Should be fun no?
I wish a happy Memorial Day weekend to all SLG'ers wherever they are and I will be in touch soon. Lief

And fun it was at the Party. Boy, let me tell you; what a refresher in dance nostalgy. And most runners turn out to be pretty good dancers. Some of us turned out to be better drinkers, but that we knew ...

As I am not selected for the 1/2 in NYC, I will sign-up for the Fan-coordination role.

Hope all is well and have a safe trip back.
Erik
