Mutiny in SLG???
Ok, all this not running on my part has given me a lot of time to think and some disturbing thoughts have popped up in my head. So it was time to call FFS (Founding Father Stefan), put on the running shoes and have a hastily callled board meeting while running a loop around the park, at the blistering pace of 9:40 minute/mile. All that thinking and discussing slowed us down I guess.
A few months ago, Erik started egging us on about registering for the New Jersey half. The reigning King in the marathon distance immediately responded, registered for the half and booked his hotel. In all fairness to Erik, in a comment to the last posting on the blog, (dated January 28th) he offhandedly hinted to turning the half into a full marathon. OK, I could live with that and admired him for being so dedicated. Then, last Tuesday, February 13th, Schaillee comes to town and cheerily announces that he was also planning to run a spring marathon. More that that, he was planning to run the inaugural marathon planned for April 29th in Eugene, Oregon. According to him, Eugene is the "birthplace of all things athletic". When he heard that SLG was already committed to be in New Jersey that weekend, he quickly reconsidered and decided to join Erik in running the full.
While mulling this over with Stefan, who at first thought that this spring marathon planned by Erik and Philippe was just posturing and intimidation, we pretty quickly reached the conclusion that this goes ways beyond posturing, this act smells of mutiny in SLG!!!!
Let me clarify. I think for the sake of team spirit, it should be each members' responsibility to give everybody fair warning as far as planning and training for a full marathon. I do not want to go so far as to demand that everybody should hand in their race schedule in the beginning of a new season, but to keep the competion fair, when so much is at stake, when there are so many contenders for the CMIYC-trophy, I think full disclosure about marathon planning should be a given!
It is obvious that FFS agrees with me and he promised me to contact FFM (Founding Father Mark) ASAP. An official ruling by these two prominent SLG'ers should follow in the next few days. The Coach.
