This is the SLG blog that Lief never wanted to start. But Thomas started it for me and challenged me to make it better and hey, I took the challenge and here it is, and I hope with every post it is a better, and more entertaining blog.

before anybody calls me a sore loser...

Tourists from all over the world are excited about meeting some SLG'ers

...let me just remind you about the 10 k Healthy kidney race, held on Saturday May 16th. It was to be a rematch of the great race between Stefan and Lief which took place last year in the run with the same name and where Lief beat Stefan "resoundingly" by 1 second per mile.
So this year meant revenge. It started with a week of e-ntimidation between the two competitors, some confusion on where they would meet on the morning of the race and many, many twists and turns during the race.
The morning of the race turned out to be quite misty. Stefan thought those were perfect conditions for a duel. The moment they crossed the starting line, it started raining, and this was not merely rain, it poured... so much for the duel, the gods must have thought.
And when all was said and done, Stefan reestablished himself as the king of the short distance (as long as Gil is not around of course) and beat Lief by, according to him a "razor thin" margin of 14 seconds (Lief pointed out that she wasn't impressed with his shaving skills if 14 seconds is razor thin).
Some interesting facts about the results though :
Stefan finished in 51 minutes exactly, Lief crossed the finish line 14 seconds later.
Both competitors ran the first and the second half of their race in the exact same splits : 25:30 for Stefan's first and second 5 k, 25:37 for Lief's.
Although Lief felt she should have had a better pace per mile, she ran 4 seconds faster overall than in last years race.

I just LOVE the picture in Strawberry field (and the others too - Wonderful work Larry)!! I still remember the applause and cheering of these people when we showed up.... Lief, you were a formidable opponent!!! I was scared by your intimidation... I wish I would be losing only by such a close margin in long races against you. SLGer this was a neck-to-neck race which only got decided with appr a 1/2 mile to go. While running a tactically good race I had to go all out at the end and was constantly afraid that the Queen would fly by me on the last yards. I am sure there will be a some speed work finding its way into our training plans for next years showdown. Maybe we'll see some more SLGer turn out. Tomorrow I will represent SLG at the Stamford 5K. Without the extra challenge of a race against the Queen of SLG I am afraid it is going to be a boring jog.

Cheers

To comment with Ali words...

"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights."
