A message from the founding fathers!! Berlin 2008 update
King Clem thrown off his thrown! Long live the emperor Gil!!!
It is only 3 days ago that our little contingent of premier SLG athletes left for Berlin. Again they were determined to make SLG running history at the 2008 Berlin Marathon. While the official trip report will surely follow shortly here the board decided to release an interim update of this highly competitive race to the SLG community after receiving phone calls throughout the day. We do feel sorry for the overall winner of the 2008 Berlin Marathon, since his new world record of 2:03:59 was clearly overshadowed by the dramatic outcome of this years race for the CMIYC trophy. Here are the results...
Gil 03:42:09 - The King of Kings and Queens
Clem 03:46:06
Lief 04:17:08
Dora 04:28:30
Another awesome performance by all SLGers!!! Congrats to all of you and congrats to the new emperor of SLG - Gil Perrone!

Unbelievable!!! Congratulations!!! Had the SLG team given us details of the return flight back to NY, you would have had a fan club with signs, flowers, horns and champagne. Oh well, next time you will provide us with the details.... I am jealous that I am not on that same plane.
Great Job!!!

Particularly to the King, keep in mind that he could not run fast because of his broken hip...

Gil, an emperor?
Let us look to the naked numbers:
victories:
Clem: New York and Chicago
Gil: Berlin
Total times:
Clem: 3:29:47 + 3:29:09 + 3:46:06 = 10:45:02
Gil: 3:46:48 + 3:32:19 + 3:42:09 = 11:01:16
Fastest race: Clem Chicago: 3:29:09
Slowest race: Gil New York: 3:46:48

Hi Clem, of course it is understandable that the defeat must be nagging you. You are a champion and used to victory!! You record is of course outstanding. You are still the "Premier runner" in SLG. HOWEVER, as Margarita pointed out, poor Gil ran this marathon with a broken hip following the call many brave men have followed before. His quest was to recapture the trophy and to bring it back to its homeland - where it belongs. Only an emperor would be able to overcome the nauseating pain and dislocating bone fragments and all the other uncounted issues he suffered leading up to this event. THIS makes him the emperor. Of course...... in case you are interested in the title, you have the chance at the next SLG CMIYC event to kick the emperors behind!
