This is the SLG blog that Lief never wanted to start. But Thomas started it for me and challenged me to make it better and hey, I took the challenge and here it is, and I hope with every post it is a better, and more entertaining blog.

The true sign of spring

No, the true sign of spring is not the forsythia in Central Park, or a few daffodils raising their heads. The true sign of spring is when the drinking fountains in the park are spouting water again so you can stop stashing your water supply for your long runs. So what if it is 45 degrees out, or if there is a bit of snow falling on April 8th? Once you see somebody bent over the drinking fountain to take a sip, you know spring is around the corner.
And SLG, or at least its active members are starting the spring with a BANG. Last Saturday was the last long training run for the New York chapter, this time consisting of Stefan, Gil and myself. At the end of our 22 miles, the 3 of us felt pretty good and ready for Boston, which will be run on April 20th.
Although this race is not sanctioned for the "Catch me if you can" trophy, I still expect that there will be a silent duel going on between Emperor Gil and supercoach Clem. While Clem is ready to run his "90 somethingth" marathon, al poised for his 100th sometime next year, Gil has made it very clear that this will absolutely be his last. (Didn't Kim Clijsters just announce that she is coming back to professional tennis after she absolutely retired in May of 2007)
Stefan seems all excited and I am very happy that "the best legs of SLG", alias Dora will also be joining us in Boston. Gil's sister Gloria is a repeat guest SLG'er after she ran with us in Berlin last year. And I feel good! I hope I can get back to running this distance under 4 hours but we'll see.
So, the six of us are ready to receive your well wishes and positive vibes for this 4th installment of the Big 5!
And I will be back here in the blog after April 20th, hopefully with a smile on my face! Lief
